Nothing Great Has Ever Been Achieved...
A thought of the day in (exactly) 100 words
Sometime during this last year, I noticed that I would always ride a bike with my fingers resting over the brakes – just in case. What a fearful stance toward life. Sure, at times we might need to brake quickly. But we also might need to speed up, swerve, yell, or ring that pathetic little ding-bell thing. To ride like this was to expect – always – to be the one to cede ground. Changing the habit, I feel vulnerable and free.
On this Fourth of July, I’m reflecting that nothing great has ever been achieved with our hands preemptively on the brakes.
I love this image and concept-- so resonant with my "braked existence"! Reading inspiring words today --which is not in the least a happy fourth in the wake of this Big Bad BIll being passed --gives me some comfort. Thank you.
